Izvorišta 397: Nemeček + Sanam, Yalla Miku, Nihiloxica, Sourdurent...
In this edition of Izvorišta, I played the new album by the Croatian kraut-psycho-noise-folk band Nemeček titled "Prokletije II". In the second part of the show, I took the opportunity to play many bands that combine traditional motifs and elements with modern and somewhat unconventional genres.

Nemeček - Prokletije II (Lack Of Records 2024.)
With their last album "Prokletije" (Selfreleased 2021), Nemeček did something that few in Croatia have dared to do before - they fused psychedelic noise rock with traditional elements. The band skillfully played with motifs from Slavic tradition and mythology and incorporated excellent tambura segments. In Nemeček's version, this traditional Croatian traditional instrument was used for intense riffs that created an exciting and fresh sound. Vedran Živković recorded most of the album himself, and meanwhile, Nemeček has become a 'real' band with the addition of Leo Beslać and Borna Maksan. "Prokletije II" is a continuation of the previous album and successfully captures all the energy that Nemeček always delivers at their concerts. This album is sure to be at the top of the annual top lists (not only) in Croatia. This wild mix of krautrock, noise, psychedelia and folk motifs is definitely worth a listen.

Nemeček is just one of the bands that combine traditional motifs and elements with modern and somewhat unconventional genres. After the presentation of the album "Prokletije II", I took the opportunity to play various bands that flirt with the same principle of composing music. So we listen to griot-punk noise from Burkina Faso, Lebanese post-rock fused with medieval poetry from the Middle East, Maghrebi post-punk, Afghan drone/progressive, French experimental folk, Senegalese tribal industrial rock, percussion techno from Uganda and futuristic Persian folk.
