In this edition of Izvorišta, we’re listening to a variety of collaborations from around the world — from Justin Adams and Mauro Durante to the Accra Collective and Saagara, as well as the joint album recorded by Kutiman, Dekel, Ouzo Bazooka and Lala Tamar. Finally, there are a few songs from the new album by the English drone-folk group Shovel Dance Collective.

Justin Adams & Mauro Durante - Sweet Release (Real World 2024.)
Justin Adams, the celebrated English guitarist and producer, and Mauro Durante, violinist, percussionist and singer, leader of the group Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, have teamed up again for the album Sweet Release and taken their fusion of blues and tarantella to a new level. The duo already achieved well-deserved worldwide fame with their first album, and Sweet Release is even better. It is clear that Justin and Mauro have several years of collaboration and numerous concerts behind them. At one of these concerts, the Globaltica Festival, I experienced how fantastic they sound live.
Kutiman, Dekel, Ouzo Bazooka, Lala Tamar - Aliza (Siyal Music 2024.)
Israeli producer Kutiman has released some great albums throughout his career, but this project, featuring Dekel, Ouzo Bazooka and Lala Tamar, brings out the best of him — and all of them. Aliza will, as they say, take you on a journey through the vibrant cultures of the Mediterranean. Their sound blends Levantine bass, futuristic Middle Eastern Dabke, Moroccan R&B, and fierce electronic beats into a deep, unifying musical experience that’s both rooted in tradition and forward-thinking.
Shovel Dance Collective - The Shovel Dance (American Dream 2024.)
The Shovel Dance is the second album by the nine-piece drone-folk group Shovel Dance Collective. The numerous members are multiplied by the number of instruments — exactly 25 on this album — and eight members of the band also sing. All of this is brilliantly woven into this dark piece, in which the longest songs are also the most impactful. At times their music is uncomfortable and challenging to listen to, but it's hard to stop listen this album.
