This Izvorišta consists of only six songs, so get ready for masterful performances by musicians from Iran, Mali, South Africa, Pakistan and South Korea. The focus is on the beautiful album by the Hamed Sadeghi, as well as the lost album by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. We’ll also listen to the duo Ballaké Sissoko and Derek Gripper, as well as Dal:um.

Hamed Sadeghi - Empty Voices (Selfreleased 2024.)
"Empty Voices" is one of the most beautiful albums I've listened to this year. The Iranian master of the tar, Hamed Sadeghi, has gathered a group of brilliant jazz musicians around him and given Persian music a new dimension. The beauty of the fusion of wind instruments and tar is particularly highlighted in the song "Bittersweet", a piece you can't help but fall in love with.
Ballaké Sissoko and Derek Gripper - Ballaké Sissoko and Derek Gripper (Matsuli/Platoon 2024.)
It's no surprise that kora master Ballaké Sissoko has recorded an album with South African guitarist Derek Gripper, as Gripper is a fan of the kora and once recorded an album of kora tunes that he rearranged for the guitar. This album flows effortlessly and is deeply soothing.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Chain Of Light (Real World 2024.)
"Chain Of Light" is the 'lost' album of the Pakistani and world music legend, recorded during sessions at Real World Studios in 1990, seven years before his death. I don't understand how this material was lost, but I'm glad it was found, because it shows once again the power of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's qawwali singing.
Dal:um - Coexistence (Glitterbeat Records 2024.)
Gayageum and geomungo are the names of the instruments played by Ha Suyean and Hwang Hyeyoung in the duo Dal:um, who recently released their second album on Glitterbeat Records. compared to their debut album "Similar & Different", "Coexistence" is a step forward in the fusion of traditional South Korean music with classical music.
